FALL 2021: TUSCALOOSA YOUTH ORCHESTRA

The Tuscaloosa Youth Orchestra (TYO) is a full orchestra made up of students with advanced abilities, under the direction of School of Music faculty member Dr. Amir Zaheri. This outreach ensemble is through The University of Alabama School of Music’s outreach program, Community Music School. TYO is comprised primarily of high school and college-age students although advanced middle school students may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Enrolling via this site is for those who are NOT seeking University credit for participation. TYO rehearses on Mondays, from 5:30–7:00pm in the IRR (room 204) of Moody Music Bldg., University of Alabama campus. Strings = 13 rehearsals +concert; Wind/Brass/Perc = 8+ rehearsals/concert

$55.00 Wind/Brass/Perc (rehearsing August 30 and October 11-November 29, Concert 11/29, no rehearsal 11/22)

*This ensemble must reflect a balanced string section instrumentation in order to be offered. If this requirement is not met, the ensemble will be cancelled and fees refunded. This decision will be made by August 26. Enrollees and their parents agree to abide by UA Covid mandates and School of Music guidelines. There is a no refund policy for this ensemble.

*Students enrolling in this ensemble must be able to 1) be on time to rehearsal; 2) focus attentively and exercise self-discipline during rehearsal; 3) be willing to adapt and improve playing skills.
